My friend buried her son today at Ascension Cemetery. I was very disappointed with the lack of respect the workers had for the grieving loved ones today. Funerals suck. There's no better way to explain it. No matter how much faith we have in being reunited one day, they are extremely depressing and we count on each other for support to get through them. The workers there today were so quick to get her son buried that they literally asked my friend (his mother) to step aside so they could bring in the tractor to dump dirt on his body. We had not finished saying our goodbyes, we had not even finished dropping roses onto his casket (or the cement box his casket is in). I have never been to a funeral where they begin burying the body right in front of all the family members. Ever. Once, my step-mother’s funeral, they asked if we wanted to stay for it. We respectfully declined and they respectfully waited until we left the premises. Nothing can be done to right the speedy goodbyes we were expected to make today, but something can be done to help any other family that may be found in this situation. Please have a conversation with your staff about being respectful to the grieving process. I understand they may have wanted to go home…but that should not be the worry or care of the family burying a child. Thank you for your time.
